Last Regional Selection Camp of 2015 to announce NCR finalists on April 12
Boys and girls aged 10 to 14 from the NCR and other provinces are expected to join this regional tryout for slots in the National Training Camp, the high point of the NBA’s global youth development program.
The two-day camp starts April 11 where participants will undergo vitals tests, basketball drills and skills challenges. The Top 40 players with the highest cumulative scores in the various categories will return on April 12 for more focused drills that will test their basketball skills, aptitude, endurance and embodiment of the Jr. NBA core values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, a positive Attitude and Respect (STAR). Scrimmages conducted at the end of the day will help select the young cagers who will move on to the National Training Camp.
The Camp will be run by Jr. NBA /Jr. WNBA Head Coach Chris Sumner together with PBA Legends Jeffrey Cariaso, Topex Robinson, Eric de la Cuesta and Rodney Santos, Alaska coaches John Ramirez, Junjun Alas, Christian Luanzon and Perlas Pilipinas Coaches Ish Tiu, Melissa Jacob and Lhen Flormata.
The Manila Regional Selection Camp is the last tryouts for the NBA’s global youth development program that was launched in January 2015 at the British School Manila. After the NTC finalists from Manila are chosen, only the selection from the Alaska Power Camp is needed to complete the cast for the National Training Camp. Fifty boys and 24 girls will participate in the three-day camp that will be held at the PICC Forum on April 24 and 25, and at the Mall of Asia Music Hall on April 26.
At the NTC, ten outstanding Jr. NBA and five Jr. WNBA players will be selected and will be named the Jr. NBA/Jr. WNBA All-Stars of 2015. They will embark on a unique, overseas NBA experience together with fellow Jr. NBA All-Stars from Southeast Asia later this year.
Past Jr. NBA All-Stars through the years include Aljon Mariano of the UST Growling Tigers, Kiefer and Thirdy Ravena of the Ateneo Blue Eagles, including incoming rookie, Hubert Cani; Kib Montalbo of the De La Salle Green Archers and incoming rookie Lorenzo Navarro; Henry Asilum and Jarrell Lim of the UP Fighting Maroons including rookie Janjan Jaboneta, Dawn Ochea of the Adamson Falcons, Rendell Senining of the National University Bulldogs and Arnie Padilla of the FEU Tamaraws.
