SM’s science museum, the Exploreum at SM Mall of Asia, will hold its first national science quiz competition, giving away as much as PHP 4 MILLION in prizes on September 2015 until February 2016.
Endorsed by the Department of Education, the Exploreum has partnered with the Department of Science and Technology to produce the first national science quiz competition: an inter-school tournament, open to public and private schools, with a total of PHP 4 MILLION in prizes for the winning schools.
The Exploreum will be accepting as many as 140 schools for the grade school and high school categories. Competing schools will already begin to win prizes in weekly, monthly, and quarterly preliminary rounds, while the winning schools and its student representatives will take come the winning pot of Php 1 MILLION each for the grade school and high school divisions during the grand finale.
Coverage of most questions for the easy, average, and difficult levels will come from the 118 exhibits and over 100 nuggets of information found at the Exploreum. Narrowing it down to topics on the earth, its matters, the cosmos, technology, and basic science properties, The Exploreum has worked closely together with science experts of the DOST to ensure that the challenges of the 5-month tournament are informed, appropriate, and up-to-date.
Driven by its commitment to develop a creative and intelligent generation that understands and adapts to the modern world and its wonders, the Exploreum believes that encouraging young minds to explore the beauty of science can harness individuals that can advance our technology and enhance the learnings regarding our universe and all its substances.
“At the Exploreum, it is our promise to uphold a total immersive experience that will stimulate curiosity and inspire science and learning by creating fun and memorable activities,” says AVP for SM Lifestyle Entertainment Inc.’s Education and Leisure Centers, Ms. Alelie Cruz. “We believe that the First National Exploreum Science Quiz Competition will provide students an avenue to learn competence and teamwork while inspiring them to excel through school education.”
The Exploreum launched earlier this year introducing its all-new exhibits, international displays such as the Science on a Sphere and Dome Theatre, and fun activities such as the Exploreum summer camp: a 3-day learn-through-play course with hands-on experiments and interactive games, allowing children to explore the different sciences and elements that make up the universe and its content. Through galleries that cover a wide range of topics related to life on earth and the fundamental nature of the cosmos, as well as engaging activities for students and parents alike, explorers will be exposed to an eye-opening environment that will include 3D films, virtual reality stimulations, optical illusions, detailed replicas, entertaining games, audiovisual presentations, and more.
